The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
