Gus Atkinson further complicated England's injury problems after leaving the field on the second morning in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.
The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.
The England team stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time away from the action for further assessment "over the next few hours".
The final Test of the tour at the SCG gets underway this coming Sunday.
England have been without key quicks one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain during this series.
Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad to provide backup.
Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.
He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.
