Grief as Popular South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.

A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Police said the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by three individuals, with one began shooting at him before running away.

The motive behind the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested have taken place, as per the official statement.

How It Happened

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.

He had devoted time at the site supervising the setup of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, according to reports.

"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement stated.

CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what resembled a security uniform opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed across the street.

It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the incident.

Key evidence, like bullet casings, were discovered at the scene.

Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have have information to contact them.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and police have been following their trail to establish their location," added an official.

His sister, a close relative, expressed the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"It is clear he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were willing to speak about. This is a devastating blow."

She urged the public to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the incident, noting this was an extremely painful time, particularly for Stock's three sons.
