Equatorial Guinea skipper Carlos Akapo and teammate Josete Miranda have both been banned for four matches for abusing the referee following their narrow loss by their opponents at the 2025 Afcon.
The decision was made by a governing body committee after it examined the referee's report from the tournament encounter on the weekend, a result that confirmed the side's elimination from the competition.
The official reported that the two players "continually directed insulting and offensive remarks" towards him and his assistants following the final whistle.
"These remarks were made in a atmosphere of intense frustration stemming from the defeat, but nonetheless constitute a serious violation of the standards of respect and conduct as well as the governing rules," added the official.
Two matches of the respective suspensions for the two players have been deferred for a period of one year.

The duo will now miss their team's last tournament fixture against Algeria on midweek.
Meanwhile, the country's governing body has been fined a sum of ten thousand dollars after its technical staff and squad members engaged in "persistent and abusive protests" against calls by the refereeing team.
The match report detailed there was "a progressive deterioration in behaviour on the touchline" following an own goal by defender Saul Coco in the 74th minute.
