The deceased of a 34-year-old woman and her young daughter, 10 have been found inside freezers in an flat in western Austria.

The deceased, a Syrian woman and her daughter, who had been missing for a number of months, were uncovered on the end of last week. The freezers were placed behind a false wall in the apartment, situated in the Innsbruck area.

A pair of males, a Austrian man, 55 and his 53-year-old brother, were taken into custody in June. The 55-year-old, a work associate of the female victim, informed police last week that there had been an incident—but disputed murder.

Addressing journalists previously, a spokesman for the legal authorities said the two suspects were being kept in custody on "high likelihood of homicide".

Personal details of those concerned have not been released by law enforcement, in following local legislation.

The vanishing of the mother and child was originally brought to light by the cousin of the mother, who lives in Germany, on the 25th of July last year.

Investigators said the 55-year-old suspect told them at the time she had gone on an long journey with her daughter to travel to her relatives in Turkey.

The mother's debit card was then discovered to be utilized abroad repeatedly.

Yet when investigators examined the woman's home, her mobile phone was found.

An individual also claimed overhearing a commotion in the flat, and cries of "mother" on the date the pair were believed to have vanished.

A broader official inquiry was launched, with officers uncovering multiple communications transmitted via the victim's mobile—among them a notice of quitting to her company and texts to the male colleague.

Officials stated a significant cash transfer was also sent to the man.

Katja Tersch told media representatives on recently that a storage unit had been secured before the mother and child went missing and a cooling unit had been positioned inside.

The brothers removed the appliance from the unit on the day the victims disappeared, she stated. And a seven days after, they obtained another freezer.

Officials say they think this indicates the fatalities were planned in advance.

"The cause of death was not identifiable due to the condition of the victims," the official stated.

Mayr—of the public prosecutor's office—said the exact sequence of events is still unclear, but the remains were expertly concealed and were not found during a earlier inspection.

Although the men were arrested in the summer, it was only on 12 November that the elder brother confessed to an event and to storing the victims. He rejects any murderous intent, officials confirmed.

In a related development, his brother acknowledged a attempt to hide evidence but disputed involvement in a homicide.

The pair are at this time in custody awaiting trial in prisons in Innsbruck and Salzburg, situated at a distance.

Via a shared communication, Austria's Minister for Women and Justice Minister said the "suspected killing of two... symbolizes the sudden and brutal end of two individuals and exposes a cruel system".

"Women and girls are being murdered due to the sole reason that they are women and girls," they went on to say.

"Murders of women are a deeply rooted and widespread concern that we must fight resolutely."
