Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown With defending champion Dodgers
George Springer previously helped the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their maiden World Series since 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the forthcoming championship.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now hit 23 October home runs, ranking him third all-time after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another person anywhere that I want up in that situation except for Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it's painful" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he added.
Toronto's team secured the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
