The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her final two events in 2025 because of a health issue she has been fighting for the last week and a half.
Raducanu, aged 22 was scheduled to compete in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but chose to travel back to rest and recuperate ahead of launching her preparations for 2026.
Her upcoming training will include her coach Francisco Roig, as both individuals have decided to continue collaborating again next season.
She had her blood pressure taken in her opening round against Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and stopped playing when losing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.
Another medical visit was necessary medical attention at the recent Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in round one.
Her movement was noticeably restricted in the third set in the match with Zhu because of a lower back issue that has been a concern on several occasions in 2025.
Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which Raducanu rose into the top 30 globally for the first time since her previous ranking, concluded with three straight losses.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points before losing to American player Jessica Pegula in the third round in Beijing last month.
The player achieved twenty-eight matches in the current season and advanced to the semis in the Washington tournament, but her most impressive week was at the Miami event in March.
As Britain's top player reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 event, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro en route before losing in a three-set match to fourth-ranked Pegula.
Her coach was Mark Petchey between Miami and Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in ahead of the US Open.
The original arrangement with the former trainer of Nadal was until the end of the season but they will keep working together, with a training session scheduled for the end of the year.
