Antony Price, Famed for Designing for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.

The British designer Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind a series of unforgettable images worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he presented his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
